ActiFry 1

Earlier this year when the Mother Trucker came to visit us she decided to make french fries with my overload of potatoes I sometimes get from the co-op I help run. It was totally fine with me that someone besides myself was going to be cooking, but what floored me was the amount of oil that she used while pan frying. 1/2 a quart to be exact. And this wasn’t just regular cheap oil found on the bottom shelf of my favorite store–this was extra virgin olive oil! Because she likes to cook healthfully.

It wasn’t just the amount of healthy grease that we consumed that evening that bothered me. I was also discouraged by the amount of time it took to pan fry 3 pounds of potatoes that somehow figured out how to stick to my pans no matter how much oil we used. Don’t get me wrong, those fries were good but the almost automatic trip to the restroom afterward wasn’t so much.

My final take from having the Mother Trucker make dinner that night? There had to be a better way to do this.

And then the folks from ActiFry contacted me. 3 months too late for the Mother Trucker french fry debacle.

Enter the T-Fal ActiFry, a countertop appliance that uses just 1 tablespoon of oil to perfectly cook french fries with that crunchy outside and soft inside (instead of the Mother Trucker’s soggy mess) with virtually no sticking, flipping or counting down the time it takes for my smoke detectors to go off. The nutritional difference floored me–according to laboratory tests there are 192 calories and 3 grams of fat in ActiFry fresh French Fries vs. 298 calories and 15.8 grams of fat in frozen fast food fries, based on a serving size of 3.52 oz. You read that right–ActiFry fresh french fries contain over 100 calories less and 5 times less fat than frozen fast food fries!

Don’t limit yourself to french fries when using the ActiFry though! the T-Fal ActiFry also makes chicken wings, fried rice, chili, vegetables, steaks, and desserts, plus many more! The appliance comes with a recipe booklet and you can find more amazing recipes in their online community! Personally, I’m throwing my deep fryer away (y’all know how messy that thing is) and am never making fries on the stove again. How about in the oven? Probably won’t either since with the ActiFry I don’t have to worry about flipping, stirring, sticking or my kitchen heating up (which some online reviews fail to mention). Just load ingredients into the ActiFry, set the timer, turn it on, and walk away until it’s finished cooking.

ActiFry How It Works
ActiFry Parts Dishwasher Safe

How does the ActiFry work? ActiFry has a hot air distribution system. The heat pulse and optimized hot air circulation evenly cooks the food while the paddle gently rotates the food. Simply add the ingredients into the pan, close the lid, set the countdown timer and turn the product on. ActiFry will do the cooking for you. ActiFry always cooks at the same temperature to ensure even and thorough cooking of the food. There is a countdown timer that lets you know when your dish is finished cooking. ActiFry is even easy to clean. The lid, the removable pan, stirring paddle and dosing spoon are dishwasher safe. You just need to wipe out the base.

It would make a big difference in my family’s life, because we all need to lose weight.. well.. except my 50 pound 8 year old daughter with a heart condition. She needs to gain 5 pounds asap so she can go in and have a heart procedure this summer and she needs to gain it in a HEALTHY way. She loves potatoes and various other fried foods that we don’t have often due to the oil use, so a heart healthier way for her to get them would be awesome.

  • Stephanie

Ok…so I don’t tweet and all that other stuff so hopefully this one entry will do the trick. My family loves potatoes – and they do like them fried – but too much like mother trucker I feel the heart clogging. This would be awesome. Not to mention the clean-up…….no splattered grease and near grease fires. I’ve tried several different ways to bake them to change it up but the kids really cry..ok whine…for the ‘french fries’! Thanks Steph

This looks like a wonderful product! You have no clue how many “debates” my husband and I have had regarding purchasing a fry daddy!!!! I refuse to buy one and he is set on it. We have 4 kids, work full time, and an extremely busy lifestyle doesn’t allow time to sit over a pot of oil to fry stuff thankfully. Wish this was around when I was young, my mother burnt our kitchen and half the living room frying french fries! Can’t wait to get one!

Oh how wonderful that would be…eldest daughter loves to make fried rice, but I usually end up cleaning up the pan…this would make it a lot easier. I am currently LOVING friend sweet potatoes with rosemary and sea salt…the absolute best….and if I don’t have to go down to SmashBurger to get a fix….how happy I would be!!!!

This is Awesome! I would love to be the winner on this. I have been working on self improvements over this past year. I quite smoking back in Sept 2011 so almost a year now. I have just given up caffeine within the last month. And next I was going to work on adding more changes to not only my food choices but also how I prepare my foods. I need to drop about 75 to 100 lbs to get back to my healthiest fighting weight and the ActiFry would be a priceless benefit.

This would be great! Same or BETTER results using FAR less oil than traditional frying? My deep fryer needs about a gal. of oil… after using it, I have to strain the oil & repack it separate for future re-use… Just a pain! Oh… and did you know that you aren’t supposed to throw the used oil in trash OR dump it down the drain?

I have a husband and two sons who love fishing…so fish fries and tators are a big thing around here. Lets’ s just say hubby has grown out of some of his fishing clothes in the past 20 years of eating like this, and well, I hate to subject that kind of eating to any of my kids really. I eat mine baked always but that’s because I learned the hard way that when you lose your health,…you pretty much lose it all. So this would be a healthy product for our family!

Oh my ganache, I can’t believe this will work! Seriously? 1TBS of oil? It’s one of those “I’ll have to see it to believe it” things. I hope I get to see it, because we keep a pan of oil on our stove all the time. It’s unsightly, probably dangerous, and all around gross. I would love to have less oil going into our bodies. Hey, a girl’s gotta have her french fries, right?

this would help me for a couple of reasons…we like deep fried but me and my husband are both overweight….it would also be great to save me the clean up it takes with a deepfryer, not to metion not haveing to buy and store big bottles of oil in my house

ActiFry would help me make healthier foods for my husband and me! He has GERD and Barret’s Esophogus, and while I love the taste of fried foods, his stomach don’t!

I think it would make a healthy difference in my life, I have high cholesterol but, still like fried foods every now and then.
