Straight Guys Can’t Get All Picky About Their Valentine’s Gifts

Valentine 2012_2

Unless they want to be called a princess.

My husband’s and my first date together was February 2, 2001. We hit it off from the start and began spending more and more time with each other each day. So much time that I even got fired from a temp job because I kept showing up late to work. That job sucked though so I really didn’t care. Two short weeks later we celebrated our very first Valentine’s Day together in which I gave him a plate of cookies and he gave me a yellow rose…and his very first kiss to a girlfriend. I just thought it was weird that he was 23 years old and had never kissed a girl before. Okay, I thought it was romantic too, but mostly I was shocked. We got married June 1, 2001, just four months after our first date, so it must not have been too weird (although my husband found my journal a couple years later where I wrote that I thought he was weird so my words of advice is don’t write stuff like that in your journal about potential mates because you’ll never live it down).

ELEVEN Valentine’s Days later our presents to each other have evolved somewhat.

This year my husband bought me potted daffodils:

And I bought him moisturizing butt wipes:

We then looked at each other and said, “Well, at least we’re both practical.”

aka: Straight guys can’t be too particular when it comes to their Valentine’s gifts.

or aka: Hey, I could’ve painted his presents on the wall.
