Take a Hike

I spent three hours Tuesday morning hiking in the woods near my home. It’s one of my favorite trails that includes an old historic bridge that is supposedly haunted by the spirit of a lynched man, but I mostly go for the experience of being in nature. If I lose any weight in the process that is cool too, but mark my words that you won’t see me in a gym unless its a free membership. Which is why I go hiking–because it’s free and there is always something new seen or heard or discovered while out hiking.

Like cougar scat:

This time I met my friend, Andie, at the trail and she, my son, Lily the Dog, and I hiked two hours in and one hour out. One of the perks of hiking during the autumn is cool mornings and warm afternoons. Some of the trees were in the full fall colors of fire oranges, citron yellows, and garnet reds while others plants still bore hues of bright spring greens. I’m tellin’ ya, Texas flora is bi-polar.

On the way back to our cars, my youngest son grew tired of walking so Andie gave him a ride on her back–a trip he loved.

Afterward, when we got home, I’d never seen my Yorkie so tired in her life. She immediately laid down on the carpet next to me and zonked for two hours straight. I was tired, my youngest was exhausted, my dog was pooped.

But I guess you are what you eat. At least dogs.

a pox on you

The cougar scat freaks me…I think of big cats every time I am in the woods….though I love it. The woods that is! -Chris Ann

That pic of the moss is a keeper!

I remember old bridges like that when I lived in Tx. In my youth we drove over some of them one way.

You take seriously GREAT photos! I'm with Mindee….. that moss photo! Whoa!

without sounding like a creep can I ask where that is? It looks like a bridge near my home! Keller-Haslett area?

  • Screwed Up Texan

Hollie, the hike is in far north Copper Canyon, Texas and is at the location of the Historic Old Alton Bridge. The trail is the Pilot Knoll Trail. Beautiful hike!

I love doing stuff like that. It's nice to unwind that way. I love your parting words the best, though….. :D
